Through the lens of 1st Peter
“Read the will, please!”
Some people seem overly anxious to hear the reading of the last will and testament when their parent or a rich uncle passes away. In the movies, the camera pans across the faces of the children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and sometimes even the butler or secretary. Who will get the lion’s share? Often, in the movies, everyone is shocked and dismayed to find that some undeserving fool is the lucky one – usually someone like the butler or the young wife that dad married after mom passed. The whole scene is a sad commentary on the greedy nature of some people.
I would like to announce that our Father’s will was revealed long ago. And He’s not dead…He is eternal. Consider this:
1 Peter 1:3-5 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in Heaven for you. You are being guarded by God’s power through faith for a salvation that is to be revealed in the last time.” (CSB)
These verses, in essence, reveal to us the future of HIS story. Because of the amazing love of the Father and the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, our inheritance is firmly established. We enjoy it now….and will enjoy it to the full when we see Jesus!
